The Perfect Color Scheme

Choosing a color scheme for your wreath can be difficult. Over the years I’ve learned to start trusting my initial instincts when determining the colors and materials of my designs. There are certainly formal FullSizeRender-6approaches that some use as a guide, but I believe harnessing inspiration from the beauty which can be seen in normal everyday life.

Take a look around. Maybe it’s a colorful china plate passed down from your grandmother, a corner of your yard littered with wild flowers, or a roll of fabric that you saw at Hobby Lobby this week. Those are all      examples of visuals which might be the inspiration for your next color pallet.

Many years ago, when I first began designing wreaths, I would retrieve out-of-date wallpaper books from a nearby design studio.  They usually threw them away – but to me they were pure gold.  I had such fun looking at a floral or other design and matching my flowers to go along with it.  This is the same concept, only much, much simpler.

It can still be difficult to pick the exact shades you’d like to focus on – especially if your inspiration piece has a wide range of colors. Luckily there is an app for that. Introducing Adobe Capture – one of my all-time favorite tools. This app allows you to transfers photos into uniquely crafted design sets that can be used to help you in creating a drop-dead gorgeous wreath.

How does it work? Open the app and the screen will display an interface for capturing photos. You’ll immediately see the color selector circles moving around, creating different color palettes at the top of the screen as you move your phone around. Once your see a palette that you love, tap the screen to freeze the colors displayed above the image. I then take a screenshot of the image and color palette together. Voila! It’s as simple as that.

Like I mentioned above, inspiration can be found in our normal everyday life. To prove my case I’ve included a few of my own Adobe Capture images which all came from items in my own home.FullSizeRender-3

Amazing, right?! Now get out there and start finding your own beautiful color palettes!
