Terrell-and-Kayla-Angel-Fire-NM-dateI’m happy to add Kayla Hess to “in the spotlight”, our newest addition to Ladybug Wreaths!  I have worked with Kayla for quite some time. She is a member of “Best of Nancy”, and “Etsy Intensives”.  She is also a member of my Ladybug Wreaths Leadership Team.  I’m sure as you read Kayla’s story, you’ll find how very special this lady is… just as I have!

Kayla is an expert at designing Deco Mesh wreaths and, as a matter of fact, has filmed her very first instructional, how-to video showing how to make her beautiful wreaths.  I am thrilled to welcome Kayla to Ladybug Wreaths!  I know you’ll enjoy her heart-warming story… ~Nancy~

My name is Kayla Hess of Kayla’s Kreations, and I live in a small town in central Texas with my family. I am married to a wonderful Christian man who is a technology teacher/technology coordinator at a small town near us. We have been married 8 1/2 years, and we have 3 beautiful children. I am a stay at home mom, and I love it! I love getting to be with my kids every day and teaching them life skills or just having fun playing. It is so rewarding to see them learn how to do something.

One thing that is a little unique about me is that I was born with a high frequency hearing loss. My brother, sister, and I were all born with one even though our parents and extended family have normal hearing. I wear hearing aids, and with them on, I can hear pretty well. I read lips, and as long as I have my hearing aids on and can see the person’s lips, I can usually understand what the person is saying.

The statistics said that my siblings and I would not have above a 4th-grade reading level. My parents did not care what the statistics said, they wanted us to succeed. I believe we did!

All three of us love the Lord Jesus and are married with kids or kids on the way. We also all have college degrees. I graduated with a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from Angelo State University, and I also got to fulfill my dream of playing college basketball for two years, one of those being at West Texas A&M where I got my bachelor’s degree. I know that without my faith in Jesus, and without my parents, I would not be where I am today.Hess-Family-Photo-March-2016-in-mountains-of-New-Mexico

I started making my first wreaths about 3 years ago. Growing up, I used to crochet, sew little clothes for my Barbie dolls, and do needlepoint. Recently, I have been making needlepoint Christmas stockings for my husband and each of our kiddos. So I have always enjoyed making craft items. front1 (1) foto

Around November 2012, I decided that it would be fun to make a Christmas grapevine wreath for our home. Once I did that, I made more as gifts for my extended family for Christmas. Then one day when I was out shopping, I saw some deco mesh material, which can be used to make wreaths. I watched some tutorials online and bought an e-book about how to make wreaths. I made my first deco mesh wreath and was hooked. I loved it!! I started learning how to make them from some of the best in this business, one of them being Nancy, of course. 🙂

Now, I enjoy learning new ways to put the wreaths together and coming up with my own style. I love working with burlap poly mesh, which is a faux burlap mesh that can get wet, unlike real burlap. I also love adding a lot of beautiful ribbon to each special wreath.

I love working with florals and adding them to deco mesh or grapevine wreaths. I opened my Etsy shop in May of 2013 but did not really do anything with it until September 2013. I have been slowly adding more and more wreaths to my shop ever since!

I have added my first video tutorial to my shop, “How to Make a Burlap Mesh Wreath.” You can use this video to learn how to make the exact wreath that I show you or if you have made wreaths before, you will learn lots of my tips and tricks that I like to use when making my wreaths. 🙂 One of the most rewarding parts of this business is talking to and getting to know my customers. I have made so many new friends from running this part-time business. I am so thankful to the Lord for the ability and opportunity to be able to make these wreaths.
